Austria

Austria is a landlocked country in the heart of Europe, known for its mountains, lakes and forests. The Alps cover much of it, and the countryside changes with the seasons: green meadows and clear water in summer, snow and quiet in winter. It is a good place for travellers who like walking, mountain scenery and small villages, and who are happy to slow down and let the weather set the pace. We list cabins here, so a stay is likely to be simple and close to nature. Days can be spent outdoors, with evenings back at your own place, cooking and watching the light fade over the hills. It suits people who want space, calm and a base for exploring the surrounding landscape rather than a busy town stay.
