It was the first attempt since antiquity to pierce a new thoroughfare through the heart of Rome and the first European example since antiquity of urban renewal. Via Giulia runs from the Ponte Sisto to the church of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini, following the tight curve of the Tiber. It became the most fashionable street of the city in the sixteenth century turning out to be the favoured of the bourgeois and of the Florentine community. Today it is one of Rome's elite shopping streets, noted for its antique shops. The street is part of the Rione Regola (Regola District) very famous for his past commercial and craft activities. Just look at the names of the streets: Via dei Pettinari, Balestrari,Giubbonari Catinari, Baullari,…imagine the manufacturers and suppliers, butchers, tanners, dyers and millers.
